Scotsman Hotel, Edinburgh 5* 87%

Just a 10-minute walk from Edinburgh’s Waverley Station the Scotsman Hotel is a 5-star establishment housed in the building of the former Scotsman newspaper. The hotel has retained its Edwardian grandeur and maintains its character through oak panelling, a marble staircase and baronial turrets. However, the Scotsman does not shy away from providing guests with modern luxury, albeit low key.

Guests have a choice of 69 rooms and suites spread over nine floors. Half of the accommodation, however, is available at room level. The rooms offer a lot of variety but the outstanding features include big marble bathrooms, tartan-covered headboards, soft carpets and Scottish watercolours adorning the walls. Many of the rooms offer wonderful views of the city, while the roof top or turret rooms are an excellent choice for a romantic stay. WiFi access is also available night and day in the rooms as well as the public areas.

Additional facilities for guests include the Scotsman Spa and Health Club complete with huge gym, Aveda spa and stainless steel pool. There is also a private screening room, absolutely perfect for watching movies. This 42-seater private cinema is also available for private hire and has been used a venue at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Other features in the hotel include the Vermillion Lounge, a place to relax and unwind after a day spent wandering the city. Of interest to the business community is the Scotsman’s own Vermillion Business Centre. The hotel also offers a wide range of rooms and suites for meetings and events.

The Scotsman Hotel is a favourite venue for wedding parties and hen and stag nights and an attractive range of wedding packages are on offer.

The Scotsman Hotel affords the opportunity to visit Edinburgh’s famous attractions. Set on the North Bridge and just a block away from the Royal Mile and Princes Street it is only half-a-mile away from Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum of Scotland.
